The Endowment Fund (formerly called the Permanent Fund) is The Rotary Foundation's endowment fund, with gifts held in perpetuity. This fund enables individuals to combine their gifts into a significant force to address the world’s greatest needs for generations to come. Spendable earnings from the fund supplement the Annual Programs Fund and support Rotary's highest priorities, including global grants and the Rotary Peace Centers.

The initial target of US$200 million for the Endowment Fund was met in 2005, six years ahead of schedule. The next target is $1 billion by 2025, ensuring the Foundation's capacity to meet future needs.

In a Rotary year, about $8 million from the Endowment Fund is made available to support Foundation programs.

Donors typically support the Endowment Fund through outright and planned gifts. The opportunities include:

  • Bequest commitments

  • Life Insurance

  • Marketable securities

  • Real estate

  • Charitable trusts or annuities

Endowment Fund recognition opportunities include:

  • Benefactor
To become a Benefactor, inform The Rotary Foundation in writing that you have made a provision in your estate plans or make an outright gift of $1,000 to the Permanent Fund.

  • Bequest Society
The Bequest Society recognizes those who have made commitments in their estate plans totaling $10,000 or more.

  • Major Donor
Major Donor recognition honors individuals or couples whose combined personal giving has reached $10,000 or more, regardless of the gift designation.

  • Arch C. Klumph Society
Donors who contribute $250,000 or more are recognized as Arch C. Klumph Society members, named in honor of The Rotary Foundation's founder, Arch C. Klumph. Donors have their photographs and a short profile shown in the Arch C. Klumph interactive display at Rotary International's headquarters in Evanston, Illinois.
