This month’s DG message will focus on Cranes for Hope. At the 2nd quarter President’s meeting in December, one of the club Presidents requested I share my story of why I’m asking clubs to fold 20 paper cranes as part of D5840 Cranes for Hope initiative for mental health.
What was your most memorable Rotary service project? My most memorable service project was in India. I participated in a Rotary Group Study Exchange (GSE) in December of 2012, and wasn't a Rotarian yet. However, being allowed to assist in distributing the polio vaccine directly to children had a lasting impact on me. It defined Rotary in a way many won’t ever experience.

Construction has commenced on a new eight classroom school with potable water and electricity! A field was acquired nearby for a Sports Program. You may think this is somewhat basic and certainly not up to American standards, but this school is not in America…it is in Nigeria, in a small village called Wassa, a village in the Federal Capital Territory.
Canyon Lake Rotary invites everyone to its 15th annual “Romantic Rendezvous” Dinner and Dance on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the New Braunfels Civic Center. All can have fun taking chances to win with opportunities available in the form of silent auctions, raffles, drawings, and live auctions.
Fair Oaks Ranch Rotarians gave their time, talents and treasures to bring Christmas joy to the community. Rotarian Garry Manitzas served as Santa, taking present requests and hundreds of photos. Along with the HOA, Rotarians also played Reindeer Games and did Arts-And-Crafts with about 200 local children.
On Saturday, December 9, Pearl Rotarians joined Mark Wittig serve lunch to the residents of Towne Twin Village, located in San Antonio's Eastside. Donated items were tacos, cookies, rolls, and soft drinks/water.
Celebrating the Holiday at the annual Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch Holiday party, but this year with a twist, as all the elves (members) donated a total of 791 pairs of socks that evening. These socks will keep the feet warm of the adults, children and babies departing San Antonio for their final destinations.
The Beeville Rotary Club and Texian Books, a Rotarian-owned bookstore, hosted a Christmas reading time with children. Rotary club volunteers read Christmas stories to children as they arrived for their hot chocolate and visit with the Grinch.
The Rotary Club of San Antonio Oak Hills has donated 70 backpacks with school supplies in them to the Locke Hill Elementary School refugee (“new comer”)students yesterday.
Blessed Angels Community Center is an emergency food pantry located on the northeast side of San Antonio. The mission of Blessed Angels is to fight hunger in San Antonio and surrounding communities through healthy and nutritional food distribution. Blessed Angels does this with their volunteers and their fleet of four vehicles.
Atascosa County Rotary Clubs (Jourdanton, Pleasanton, and Poteet) from District 5840 gathered together on 12/14/23 at the Pleasanton Lions Club building for our annual Christmas party. (BIG thank you to the Pleasanton Lions Club for helping us out with the event!!) It was Jourdanton’s year to host, and we had Chile Bandera cater a fabulous turkey dinner with all the fixings.
The Rotary Club of Blanco County celebrated Christmas with a short meeting and a party at Stephen and Georgia Hartmann’s home on December 18. Members and their guests enjoyed delicious food and desserts and had a fun gift exchange.
