December is recognized in Rotary as Disease Prevention and Treatment Month, a time when we focus on one of the most critical areas of need in communities around the world. Rotary members understand that good health is the foundation for productive lives, thriving communities, and lasting peace.

Yet millions of people still lack access to essential health care, clean water, trained medical professionals, or the knowledge needed to prevent illness.

Rotary has long been committed to addressing these challenges. Our most visible global effort is the fight to end polio. For more than three decades, Rotary has worked tirelessly with partners to reduce polio cases by more than 99 percent worldwide. This extraordinary progress shows what is possible when we unite with determination, resources, and compassion.

But our impact extends far beyond polio. Rotary clubs support maternal and child health initiatives, provide training and equipment for local clinics, sponsor medical missions, and expand access to clean water and sanitation—all vital components of preventing disease before it starts. Rotary also invests in education, ensuring that families understand nutrition, hygiene, and preventive care.

This month, we are encouraged to reflect on how we can contribute locally. Whether it is supporting a vaccination clinic, partnering with a health agency, promoting mental health awareness, or improving access to screenings and early detection, every club can make a difference. Rotary’s strength lies in our ability to take action—both at home and around the globe.

As we honor Disease Prevention and Treatment Month, let us recommit ourselves to the work of saving lives, strengthening communities, and creating a world where every person has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Together, we can continue to Unite for Good and build a healthier future for all.
