San Marcos Rotary donates funds and provides volunteers for School Fuel packaging events. School Fuel packages food for school kids every Thursday for distribution on Fridays. Rotary is mobilizing 10 or more volunteers every third Thursday to bag the food.
Over 75% of San Marcos school age children qualify for the federal free/reduced lunch program. Most of them go home on the weekends to little or no food. School Fuel serves 1300 K-12 students who have a high-risk of little or no food at home. The nonprofit is staffed entirely with volunteers to maximize the number of hungry students who can receive weekend food.
