Nearly ten years ago, during the 2011-2012 school year, the Mission Trail Rotary Club sponsored a Rotary Youth Exchange student   Serah – who traveled all the way from Papua New Guinea (PNG), in the western Pacific.
Serah returned home after her exchange year that had many highlights, including carrying the PNG flag at the Rotary International Convention in New Orleans. Upon her return to PNG Serah enrolled in the University of Papua New Guinea where she studied general science. In 2017 she was accepted into the Divine Word University where she is currently a medical student. Serah’s dream is to be a surgeon and to serve people in her home country. During the past ten years, Serah started a family while also keeping in touch with the members of the Mission Trail. This past November, the Mission Trail Club voted and passed a resolution to cover her tuition costs for 2021 and for 2022. With the funds for 2021 needed in January, club members quickly came together and were able to gather the necessary funds to send to her school. We’re wishing Serah all the best, and some members of the club plan to visit PNG to see her graduate.
