Former Fredericksburg Mayor Jeryl Hoover is the winner of the Rotary Club of Fredericksburg’s 2025 2026 Hans Hannemann Community Service Award. Hoover was presented a plaque by Rotarian Carol Ann Shepherd, who nominated him for the award. Joining them (l-r) are Jim Franer, Rotary Club President, and Rotarians Annette Tilley, and Bob Lee, who also nominated Hoover. 
Hoover was recognized for his decades of community service. In 1997, he founded the Fredericksburg Theater Company, and served as the company’s Executive Director for 14 years. He then served as Executive Director of the Gillespie County Historical Society from 2015 to 2021. He was Mayor of Fredericksburg for five terms, 2006-2008, 2008-2010, 3012-2014, 2022-2024, and 2024-2026. In 2023, he returned to the Fredericksburg Theater Company as Executive Director.
 
The Hans Hannemann Community Service Award is presented to a non-Rotarian who has had civic involvement and who has contributed to the community at large, someone who exemplifies the Rotary Club’s motto, “Service Above Self.”
