Members from the Boerne High School Interact Club with support from the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club volunteered during winter break at Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries (HCDBM) in Boerne. The Interactors were tasked with sorting “expired” bread and pastries items donated by HEB for distribution to local farmers and an animal rehabilitation center. Each food item was unwrapped and placed accordingly into large cardboard bins.
HCDBM covers 8 counties in the Hill Country and is fortunate to receive funds from grants because they use volunteers instead of employees. The food that is expired is given to pig farmers. The fruit and vegetables that are not given to their clients go to feed the primates at the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Kendalia. The pig farmers and the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center also give back to HCDBM.

Director of Volunteer and Guest Experience, Mary Sue Hurdt, stated, “we are so grateful for our many volunteers that help their neighbors”.

On March 1st, HCDBM will have a “Unite and Equip” vision dinner and fundraiser celebrating their 25th year of severing the Boerne Community and surrounding counties. The Interact Club at Boerne High School (BHS) has been asked to volunteer at this event and the Interactors will be coordinated by Interact Club president Selah Morales. The BHS Interact Club is sponsored by the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club.
