The Rotary Club of San Antonio Northwest is teaching local elementary students the power of kindness through heartfelt creativity. In October, 300 handmade “Get Well” cards created by students from three elementary schools were delivered to children at Baptist Children’s Hospital, Methodist Children’s Hospital, and Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital — 100 cards to each location. These touching messages reminded young patients that other kids care about them and their recovery.

Next up in November, four schools and 400 students will craft Thanksgiving cards for deployed members of the military — a gesture of gratitude for those serving far from home.

And in December, the project grows again. Six schools and 600 students will create Christmas cards for patients in eight hospice centers, sending warmth and encouragement to “really sick older people,” as the children lovingly describe them.

Through this ongoing initiative, San Antonio Northwest Rotary is helping students express empathy and compassion — one card, one smile, and one caring message at a time.
