In 1872 the first Arbor Day was celebrated and in 1885 it became an official state holiday. By the 1920s, each state in the United States had passed public laws that stipulated a certain day to be Arbor Day. Boerne’s Rotarians have a special way of celebrating this day.
The Rotary Club of Boerne (Noontime) has for the last 6 years partnered with the city of Boerne and with Burkett Arbor Care to plant trees around Boerne on Arbor Day. During that time over 200 trees have found a home in our community thanks to this dedicated group. Our parks, our streets, our lake and other areas have become greener and shadier.

Boerne has been recognized nationally as a “Tree City USA”. The trees are not only a beautification of our community; but they clean our air and water, provide habitat for wildlife, connect communities and support our health and well-being.

This year The Rotary Club of Boerne was joined in planting by children from St. John Lutheran’s Preschool. They even brought their own little shovels! Excellent breakfast tacos from Texas Hill Country Barbecue and perfect weather made the morning’s work pleasant. Many thanks to all who made this project a success and who exhibit the true meaning of Service Above Self.
