The Rotary Club of San Antonio South celebrated an evening of achievement and service May 14 during its Scholarship Banquet, Board Induction and New Member Induction held at La Gloria Brooks.
The club awarded scholarships to four outstanding East Central High School Interact students who have demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership and community service.
Scholarship recipients included Cameryn Heckman, who served as East Central Interact president for the past two school years and graduated magna cum laude; Mahogany Summers, who graduated summa cum laude; Naydeline Contreras, who graduated cum laude; and Julia Reed, a member of the Class of 2026.
Club members expressed pride in honoring Interactors who actively serve both their school and community while exemplifying Rotary’s spirit of “Service Above Self.” The featured speaker of the evening was Lisa Chandler, East Central HS Interact Sponsor.
In addition to student scholarships, The College of Health Care Professions received recognition for its support of students pursuing educational opportunities and career goals.
The club also inducted its 2025-26 board of directors. The induction ceremony was led by District 5840 Governor Elect Bobby Martinez, who welcomed the incoming leadership team as they prepare for another year of community service and impact.
During the evening, the club officially welcomed new member Jim Hernandez into the Rotary family. Hernandez also was inducted by Martinez as members celebrated the club’s continued growth and commitment to serving the community.
The event brought together future Rotarians, current Rotarians and their families for a memorable evening focused on leadership, scholarship and service.
