The Rotary Club of San Marcos donated $5,000 to the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance on November 13. Half of the funds came from a grant from Rotary District 5840 and the rest was raised by Rotary locally. The funds are to be used for materials, signage and tools to construct new and maintain existing trails in San Marcos.
Since 1998, the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance has been working to create and maintain interconnected parks and natural areas. The Greenbelt system in San Marcos includes six natural areas, 1200 acres, and more than 30 miles of trails. SMGA is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization that survives, it says, “on the membership dues, donations, grants, perspiration, brains and brawn of people who understand the value of the natural world.”
