San Marcos Rotary worked with Texas State University Rotaract and the San Marcos CISD to sponsor a workshop on child sex trafficking. The event was held on November 11.
The goal was to teach coaches, teachers, youth leaders and other to recognize the signs of child sex trafficking and know how to initiate professional investigation. The focus iswas on practical information that helps those working directly with youth on a regular basis.
 
The trainer is Kirsta Leeburg Melton, from the Institute to Combat Trafficking. She put human traffickers in prison for a decade, most recently for the Human Trafficking and Transnational/Organized Crime Section of the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.
 
Two dozen people attended, including teachers, school administrators, youth serving nonprofit leaders, and some high school students.
