The Rotary International Foundation is like one big top quality money pump. We give to the Foundation and the Foundation magnifies our gifts and gives back to put the ideals of Rotary into Action around the world. Foundation grants empower Rotary to approach problems like poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition, and violence with sustainable solutions that have lasting impact.
The Rotary Clubs of Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg-Morning and Fredericksburg-Nimitz have continued to partner up for our Early Childhood Literacy Committee. We recently delivered another bin full of "Books For Babies" totes to Hill Country Memorial Hospital OB Department.
In the municipality of Zacoalco de Torres, Mexico; the New Braunfels Rotary in a joint project with the Rotary Club of Zacoalco held several joint ribbon-cutting ceremonies on October 21, 2019, to unveil newly installed water fountains with filtration systems for Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle schools students.
It has been a great month for The Rotary Club of San Marcos. A number of organizations were supported by funds raised by fellow Rotarians including the local YSB and School Fuel. School Fuel was presented with a $5,000 check,the funds became available through a matching grant from Rotary District #5840 known as a District Simplified Grant.

New Braunfels Downtown inquired this month about earning a second banner and learned The Rotary Foundation provides just the first banner. More inquiring uncovered a neat-looking patch that can be sewn onto the original banner with a 2, 3, 4, etc. on the patch signifying how many years the club has earned the distinction. The Rotary Club of San Saba held their first "Purple Pinkie" Project at their High School football game this past Friday evening. We had a couple of things going in our favor as the game was against our arch rivals, the Goldthwaite Eagles, and our team colors are purple and gold. We did well for a first time event but there was more that went on than just raising a little money and awareness.
In October, many members of the Canyon Lake Rotary Club volunteered to dismantle an existing walk-in freezer and re-install it into the CRRC’s (Community Resource and Recreation Center) new all-purpose building.
Every year, the Rotary Club of San Antonio selects an individual under 40 who makes an impact in the San Antonio Metropolitan area. Someone who exemplifies Rotary’s moto of “Service Above Self”. We are pleased to announce that Lorenzo Gomez, III has been selected as the 2019 Outstanding Young San Antonian.
The Fredericksburg Rotary Club has been proud to sponsor the Toys for Tots program for families in Gillespie County for over twelve years. The Marines originally brought the program to the area. They turned over the sponsorship to our local KNAF radio station, who turned over the sponsorship to our Rotary Club. The program requires over 800 volunteer hours each year from about 60 Rotary Club members, their spouses, Interact members, and community volunteers.
Members of the Eagle Pass Rotary Club conducted a service project during their lunch hour on October 4th for Mission: Border Hope, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower diverse border men, women and children in their community. They assembled toiletry kits, sorted clothes and learned more about the needs of their community.
On September 12, 2019 the International Boundary and Water Commission celebrated the 50th anniversary of Amistad Dam, in Del Rio, Texas. Speakers from the United States and Mexico presented remarks about the dam and spoke about the importance of the relationship between our two countries. Rotarian Fred Bowers was one of four guest speakers from the United States at this special anniversary event. Fred worked for the general contractor Perini during the construction of Amistad Dam from 1965 to 1969.

For the second year, the Rotary Club of Blanco County is supporting the Partners Assisting Literary Success (PALS) program, an initiative for Kindergarten through second grade students needing assistance with their reading skills, at the Blanco Elementary School.

On a very hot day, Canyon Lake Rotary members manned the Mile 45 Refreshment Stop tent near the Guadalupe River in Sattler for the bicycle racers in the MS Race to the River. To date, Bike MS cyclists, volunteers, and donors have raised more than $1.3 billion to stop MS in its tracks, restore what's been lost, and end MS forever.
This past week, the Rotary Club of Kerrville - Morning (Morning Rotary) provided lunch for the interns, staff and volunteers at the Christian Women’s Job Corps, Kerr County (CWJC) and joined them for a special time of connecting over the meal.
San Antonio West Rotarians marked World Polio Day with a purple pinkie fundraiser on the senior living campus of Air Force Villages. The composite photo, framed around CEO Gen Darrell Jones, was used in pre-event marketing. Over $1,000 was raised for End Polio Now and Rotary raised its profile on the campus.
The Jourdanton Rotary Club participated in our local National Night Out on October 1st, 2019. We had a Festive Fall Bean Bag Toss and gave away assorted colored pencils with ours club’s name engraved on them. We had lots of fun and even let the kids play after our members tried their hand at tossing a few. We are looking forward to participating again next year.
