As we start the 2024-2025 Rotary year I would like to thank Immediate Past District Governor Monica for all of her hard work. She has put the District in a strong position to move forward and succeed. The start of a new Rotary year is a moment of anticipation and magic. It marks the beginning of fresh initiatives and renewed commitments to service above self.
The District Rotary Foundation raffle winners from the June 1st drawing: Kristy Vandenberg (Kerrville), Betty Coleman (Uvalde), Marilyn Mitchell (Hondo), Imelda Gonzalez (SA North Central), Fred Timmons (Oak Hills SA), Linda Mariani (San Antonio), and Marsha Hildreth (Fredericksburg Nimitz).
Rotarian Linda Mariani was the seller of the third ticket drawn. The $70,420 in raffle proceeds will support the humanitarian programs of the Annual Fund in our communities and around the world.
The Madison High School Interact club was the recipient of the “Best in District” award. District Governor Monica Gutierrez recently presented the award to club sponsor, Ms. Janeen Downen and the several Interact members at the San Antonio Northeast Rotary meeting on June 11, 2024.
DGE Kristin Salazar and PDG Bill Dean presents pins to District 5840 Long Term and Short Term Outbound Exchange Students on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Countries they are going to include Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.
The City of Fredericksburg held the Ribbon Cutting ceremony atop Cross Mountain for the newly fabricated and erected cross. The funds were raised by the Fredericksburg Nimitz Rotary over a two-year period of time.
On May 20, 2024 S.A. North Central Rotary Club awarded 6 Scholarships in the amount of $2500 each to students from Churchill High School, The Winston School and L.E.E. High school.
An event held at the ranch of Nimitz Rotary Club members Pam and Neal Martin on May 25th in honor of Memorial Day raised over $5,200 which was presented to Sharon Massey and Dottie Pieper of Wounded Warriors at Nebo. The Nimitz Rotary provided a BBQ dinner and desserts for attendees.

We love our Veterans! Besides being able to do two free veterans appreciate breakfasts a year we also were able to donate a BUNCH of non perishables and toiletries to their pantry at the veterans center. Thanks to the districts matching grant we were able to donate twice a much this year!
On June 2nd District 5840's seven outbound students gathered with their parents, members of the District Committee, seven of the District's inbound students, DG Monica Gutierrez, DGE Kristin Salazar and DGN-D Bobby Martinez in New Braunfels for the final of three orientations. Following the orientation, DGE Kristin Salazar assisted by PDG Bill Dean presented District Pins to the students signifying their graduation from being Youth Exchange Candidates to Rotary Youth Exchange Students.
For over 70 years the Rotary Club of San Antonio South has served the Southside of San Antonio. On May 9, 2024, the club came together to celebrate their platinum jubilee. Chartered as the Rotary Club of the Highlands in 1953 the club changed their name around 2012 to encompass more of the southside.
When most think of Fiji, they likely envision a tropical oasis in the middle of the south seas with white sand beaches, swaying coconut trees, year-round warm weather, beautiful resorts, and vibrant blue waters.
So, when a member of the Rotary Club of Savusavu (RCSSV), Fiji Islands, Ronni Van Applebaum, who happens to have family in New Braunfels, Texas, and is friends with a member of the Rotary Club of New Braunfels (RCNB), Bill Biggadike, contacted Bill and let him know about the need for wheelchairs in Savusavu, the International Committee of the Rotary Club of New Braunfels, chaired by Norma Blackwell, rolled up their sleeves and took action.
Lonesome Dovefest Kickoff: Saturday 7/27/24 at 5pm, held on a Saturday night, our fundraiser provides an evening of fun for our community to come together. Meal tickets are $40 and it covers a catered meal and drinks. Sponsor tables are $1,000 and include eight meal ticket with extra goodies.
Chris McCorkle, Vice President of the San Antonio Sunrise Rotary Club presented a college scholarship to Judith Joaquin, at their meeting on May 14, 2024. Judith served as Secretary of the South San HS Interact Club her senior year, was a RYLA participant, and has been accepted to Columbia University where she will major in Political Science in the fall. Judith's mother, Rachel was present at the ceremony.
The Rotary Club of Blanco County awarded scholarships to three Blanco High School gradates. Rotarian Jack Twilley presented the Rotary Club of Blanco County Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each to Gemma Broglie and Sophie Blankenburg.
Congratulations to the Clark High School Interact Scholarship recipients. Oak Hills Rotary sponsored an awards luncheon for both students and their family.
The Rotary Club of Blanco County raised approximately $25,000 on June 17th at its major annual fundraiser - The Joe Garcia Memorial Golf Tournament. The winning foursome was James Fulton, Chase Thalman, Ryan Moore and PJ Pfeiffer
The Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club held its first ever car show hosted by Hector Mata of Mata’s Concepts in Boerne and was organized by rotary club member Rick Reyes. Over 300 people attended the event throughout the day.
As an avid sports fan, President Stephanie Urchick is well-positioned to light the lamp, clear the bases, and split the uprights. Whatever the sports metaphor, she’s destined to keep Rotary in the winner’s circle
