The Canyon Lake Rotary Foundation made a significant donation recently to jumpstart the financial assistance program at a local charity. The Community Resource & Recreation Center of Canyon Lake (CRRC) has served the community for 37 years by providing emergency food and financial assistance.

Twenty needy local families of the Hondo area were presented with $100 food baskets from HEB as a result of a $2000 grant awarded to the Rotary Club of Hondo/D’Hanis by the District Foundation.

On June 18th, The Rotary Club of Kerrville – Morning (Morning Rotary) Treasurer, Drew Whitehead, standing in for Jon Tilley, President, named Ray Buck as the 2019-2020 Rotarian of the Year.
The Rotary Clubs of Boerne Sunrise and Fair Oaks Ranch applied for and were awarded grants through the District 5840 COVID 19 Disaster Relief Fund for the combined amount of $3000.
Eleven district clubs have earned an EREY banner as the books are closing on 2019-2020! EREY stands for Every Rotarian Every Year and is based on every member contributing at least $25 to Rotary’s Annual Fund and the club per capita average contribution being $100 or more.
Pleasanton Rotary Club organized a needs assessment in Atascosa County for which 5-7 possible food pantries in Atascosa County and committed to distribute 475 boxes to the identified groups.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of pain and fear in the community, but local groups still look out for the community and the Wimberley Valley and help with those that individual and families that are directly affected.
As District 5840’s PolioPlus Chair for 2020-2021, I will be writing a blog on the status of PolioPlus and events related to it. The blog will be on Wordpress and will be readily available to the public there, on Facebook, and on Twitter. The blog will be placed on the District 5840 website in the enhanced PolioPlus section.
The Fredericksburg Nimitz Rotary Club, The Rotary Club of Fredericksburg, and the Fredericksburg Morning Rotary Club jointly received a Covid-19 grant of $4,000 from District 5840.
