During March, Rotary Water and Sanitation Month, we celebrate our commitment to creating healthier communities by supplying clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Last month, Winter Storm Uri presented many challenges to both clean water and proper sanitation for many residents throughout South Texas. This was only a glimpse into a much dire situation around the world.
It's been an unimaginable week for all of Texas residents due to the winter storm. Here in District 5840, many are still without food, power, and safe drinking water. Some have even experienced structural damage to their homes (collapsed ceilings, busted water pipes, etc.). We are currently gathering information to support those Rotarians in need. Did you know that February is Peace and Conflict Resolution Month with Rotary and that the first week of March is considered "Peace Corps Week"? Connections between the two organizations do not end there. As you may know, Rotary and Peace Corps have an official relationship where Rotarians can sponsors Peace Corps projects and much more.
District Annual Fund Raffle was for a cruise. Winner of th drawing got a cruise and seller of the ticket got a cruise. Cruises were already losing popularity and Covid 19 was the death blow for us. In the Fall, we surveyed membership for possible prizes and the prepaid bank card for $1000 was selected from 4 possible prize packages. There will be 7 drawings and we have 7 prepaid $1000 Frost Bank Cards for the prize. The third ticked drawn the prize will go to the seller of the ticket to give incentive to sell tickets. Tickets have been sent to Club Presidents.
Rotarians are used to the familiar phrase “we are this close” meaning that worldwide eradication of polio will happen soon. In case you are wondering if something is stopping us from reaching the eradication goal and the phrase is no longer used for that reason, not at all. So far in 2021, in the two endemic countries, Afghanistan has had only 1 case of Wild Polio Virus 1 (WPV1) and Pakistan has had zero cases. The Canyon Lake Rotary Club is taking a fresh approach to our wildly successful Valentine’s Day Romantic Rendezvous! This year the Club decided to fete an online fundraiser in February with the simple theme of supporting our scholarship program.

The Rotary Club of Blanco Count is happy to announce that its annual major fund raising event, the golf tournament, has now been rescheduled to Monday, June 7, 2021.
The City of Del Rio, Texas had 11.2 inches of snowfall on February 18, 2021. This was a historic record of snow for this date and many persons in the community were out of power and water, due to the freezing temperatures.
President-elect Jeff Harris and his "Main Event" co-chair Robin Miears are busy distributing raffle tickets to Rotarians. As you know, our annual in-person event cannot happen, so it will take each one of us to raise the funds we need to provide for next year's many, many service projects.
The Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch partnered with The Mission Continues to finish a project for beautifying a building utilized by Vet TRIIP. Vet TRIIP provides therapeutic services including yoga, art and ukulele classes to Veterans and their families at this location. The organizations were approved for a grant from The Home Depot. Volunteers painted the inside and outside of the building, cleaned and repainted the deck, and assisted Gardopia in area beautification to the landscape. Thank you to all who volunteered.
The Eagle Pass Rotary Club delivered dinner to the residents of El Centenario, a public housing facility on Saturday, February 20th. The residents are primarily seniors and were severely impacted by the notorious winter storm that hit Texas last month.
John Wall was a charter member of the Fair Oaks Ranch Rotary Club when it was formed in 2012 but it was not where his Rotary journey began. He first joined Rotary as a member of the Northwest Rotary Club of San Antonio in 1985 at the encouragement of his business partners at a well-known San Antonio engineering firm.
Ballinger Rotary held their annual pancake supper for the community. This year we had a drive through and had some fantastic pancake Cookers this year.
