News From Around District 5840
DG Xavier Toson's March Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I hope this message finds you all well and in great health. During March, Rotary Water and Sanitation Month, we celebrate our commitment to creating healthier communities by supplying clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Last month, Winter Storm Uri presented many challenges to both clean water and proper sanitation for many residents throughout South Texas. This was only a glimpse into a much dire situation around the world.
Winter Storm Relief Program
It's been an unimaginable week for all of Texas residents due to the winter storm. Here in District 5840, many are still without food, power, and safe drinking water. Some have even experienced structural damage to their homes (collapsed ceilings, busted water pipes, etc.). We are currently gathering information to support those Rotarians in need. If you need support, complete this form.

Big Change from previous years!
District Annual Fund Raffle was for a cruise.  Winner of th drawing got a cruise and seller of the ticket got a cruise. Cruises were already losing popularity and Covid 19 was the death blow for us. In the Fall, we surveyed membership for possible prizes and the prepaid bank card for $1000 was selected from 4 possible prize packages. There will be 7 drawings and we have 7 prepaid $1000 Frost Bank Cards for the prize. The third ticked drawn the prize will go to the seller of the ticket to give incentive to sell tickets. Tickets have been sent to Club Presidents.

Rotarians are used to the familiar phrase “we are this close” meaning that worldwide eradication of polio will happen soon. In case you are wondering if something is stopping us from reaching the eradication goal and the phrase is no longer used for that reason, not at all. So far in 2021, in the two endemic countries, Afghanistan has had only 1 case of Wild Polio Virus 1 (WPV1) and Pakistan has had zero cases. WPV1 is the only wild virus still found in the natural state. Take a look at this video to get into the spirit and then share it with friends.  CLICK HERE
