On July 26, the 6th Annual Back-to-School Rally was held at the Boerne Independent School Administration Building. At this rally Boerne parents and students were provided with resources and service information in preparation for the new school year.
Some of the information shared with the attendees regarded school immunizations, local health clinics, school supplies, student registration, and other resources available to the students provided by BISD and community partners. As families entered the facility, Boerne Sunrise Club President Ron Cisneros joined with fellow club Rotarians gave each family a tote bag with the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Emblem to place items received at this event. The Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club helped support Hill Country Family Services (HCFS) at this event by helping load, transport, unload, and stack containers in the main resource room containing 400-5 pound hygiene kits for distribution to the students. HCFS purchased the kits and each kit contained body wash, shampoo, hair conditioner, tooth paste including two tooth brushes, deodorant, a washcloth, hair brush and a toy. The kit itself serves as a lunch box for a student too.
Last year, 300 kits were distributed to students and they ran out of kits in a couple of hours. This year 400 kits were purchase and they ran out by 11:00 am. In order to meet the demand for next year, HCFS will purchase 600 to be handed out to the students.
Bryce Boddie, Executive Director of HCFS and secretary of the Boerne Sunrise Rotary Club, coordinated this effort with club members to provide students with the hygiene kits.
Shortly after the flood on July 4th, HCFS was actively supporting flood relief efforts by supplying workers, first responders, and homeowners with needed supplies. There became a surplus of supplies so they were sent to other impacted areas including San Angelo, San Saba, and Ruidoso, New Mexico. Two families from Comfort were displaced by the floods and were re-housed by HCFS.
