What is polio, and why does eradication matter? For many students at Texas A&M University–San Antonio (TAMUSA), these questions sparked new conversations during a Polio Eradication Awareness Campaign hosted by the Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch in partnership with Professor Olaoye and her ENGL 1302 class.

Through this ongoing partnership, the club provides students with service-based learning experiences that introduce them to Rotary and its local and global impact. Rotarians and students engaged with campus visitors between classes, sharing information about polio and the importance of immunization.
Past District Governor and Rotary Foundation Chair Monica Gutierrez shared firsthand experiences providing immunizations in India, connecting Rotary’s global mission to the lives and communities it serves.

The campaign combined meaningful conversations with pizza, cupcakes, and candy. Even a costumed Grim Reaper beside Rotary’s Four-Way Test helped spark interest!

The event highlighted the importance of education: when students are unfamiliar with polio, raising awareness is an essential first step toward action. By connecting classroom learning with community service, the Rotary Club of Alamo Ranch is helping inspire the next generation to address global challenges.

Through education, partnership, and service, we can help build a polio-free world. Together, we can End Polio Now!
