At the end of February, The Rotary Club of San Antonio was honored to sponsor “Nurturing Hope: Poetry, Peace and Possibility” a program of Trinity University’s The Conversation series dedicated to fostering constructive dialogue by bridging disciplines and differences. Trinity University Rotaract Club President Rory McCarthy opened the dialogue with her insights as a scholar of the Nurturing Seeds of Hope International Peace Leadership Academy.

We then delighted in the evocative words of Northern Irish Theologian, Poet and Host of the Poetry Unbound podcast Pádraig Ó Tuama; internationally-acclaimed Palestinian-American “wandering" Poet, Educator and Editor Naomi Shihab Nye; and Texas Poet Laureate and Trinity University Professor Jenny Browne. Within the parallels of their experiences from living and writing in bifurcated communities, we witnessed the power of poetry and communication to hold space for the complexity, nuance, healing and Hope in uncertain times.
Nurturing Seeds of Hope International Peace Leadership Academy (based in Northern Ireland) and Nurturing Hope San Antonio are collaboratives that equip young peace leaders with skills in civil discourse, diplomacy, and Rotary’s Positive Peace principles.
