In July, the Rotary Club of San Antonio West launched Unlocking Hope: Our Fight to End Alzheimer's—a project to help fund research leading to a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. Rotarians in the club have family members suffering from Alzheimer's or loved ones they lost to this disease.
All funds go to the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Disease at UT Health San Antonio. They are one of 33 Centers—and the only one in Texas—recognized as a National Institute on Aging designated Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Their target is the 55 million people worldwide living with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases.
The Glenn Biggs Institute provides a comprehensive clinical network for dementia patients and their families. Their staff engages in groundbreaking research and multiple trials to understand the progression and causes of Alzheimer's. Their new Center for Brain Health due to open in 2025 will provide space to house new researchers, ultramodern equipment for research, clinical trials, and patient care.
